It’s the end of an era, the start of a new day!

This isn’t a sombre goodbye; we’re driving off into the sunset blasting all the “HCwBB Launch Party” playlists combined.

The first print issue came out in early 2016 and after Issue #7 (out now) we are taking an indefinite hiatus from printing. We’ll still be around online, and we’re looking forward to seeing what that grows into.

In seven issues we have given countless young writers their first ever bylines, and printed their work beside big-name, established writers. We’ve commissioned well over 150 meaningful, entertaining, valuable, and empowering pieces from Australia and overseas. Our launch events have helped build Australia’s cultural infrastructure, and have normalised the celebration of women’s stories. We will not hesitate in saying how proud we are of the friendships we have fostered, the voices we have elevated, and the contribution we have made to independent print journalism.

It’s just time to move on. Indie press is a tough gig, and it wasn’t easy to draw a line in the sand, but we wanted to finish on a high note—we’re going out with a bang! Thank you to our partners and families for always supporting us, and to the huge cast and crew of friends and contributors who kept this eternally optimistic operation going through all manner of deadlines. Some major sponsors like Allpress, The Print Bar, and Brisbane City Council allowed us to increase our number of new contributors with each issue, and to pay amazing women to be involved with our launch events. We’d also like to thank all the independent bookstores for stocking our publication.

This issue is so good. Stunning portrait photography accompanies the fascinating interviews with Flex Mami and Vanessa Varghese. Jessamy Gleeson’s account of helping to organise the Eurydice Dixon memorial in Melbourne is shocking and upsetting, but also incredibly tender. If you need a pick-me-up after that, please turn to the Pets of the Homeless story—Yvonne Hong is changing the lives of people and their loyal companions, one good boy at a time.

Running this organisation has been a constant reminder of how awesome women are.

With immeasurable thanks and best wishes,

Bri + Anna
